Man feeding coyotes? 1 Month, 1 Week ago

There was an article in the Journal recently about a man in Ventana Ranch that's leaving food out in his front yard for a lame coyote. I was a bit disturbed, especially when I realized he lives in my subdivision. Now he's got channel 7 news over there. I've lived here my whole life and thought it was common knowledge that you do not want to be attracting predators into your backyard by leaving food out, lame or otherwise. Was wondering how other residents feel about this.

As well, I live in the same sub-division. He states that he would never feed a "healthy" coyote, however, I would think this would promote more coyotes coming around more often then they do now. If he is this concerned, could there be something else to be done. Vet maybe or the county animal shelter? This is a bit alarming, considering I am a very close neighbor and have a family to care for. Where is the line? If there was injured Rattle Snakes, would he be helping them as well? As for the "concrete jungle" comment, we are not exactly living the wild west here, there is concrete right outsitde my front door. Just one person's opinion, but it is a bit alarming. We have lived here for 10 years and I know there are coyotes and other wild life out there, you can hear them at night. They have their place and have ours. But, if the sick ones all go to his house, whose to say they won't venture into my yard (by the pack), instead of one or 2. You are just inviting them in when you start caring for them instead of letting nature take care of it. And for it to be happening for 2 years, big shock to me. If anything, he should have trapped it and got it help. He is willingly bringing the "wild" as it were to our houses. All in all, it may not seem like a big deal, as the story goes, nobody has gotten hurt........yet. On a side note, I came home from work today and saw several pigeons (20+) hanging around his house and only his house. Now, I see why. Sorry for the book, but you can see I am concerned. We need to bring this up to some higher ups, if it is there already. We will definitely be careful when we, as a family, take our walks. Don't want our small dog becoming a "dog biscuit" for Wiley.

Listen, don't wanna scare anybody but within the last 3 weeks I have found intestines (which looked to be cat) on one occasion and just last Tuesday found a dead cat in Terrazas Park. Both were in the same area of the park on different days. The problem is it was only the lower half of his body. There was no sign of blood. There was fur all along the park belonging to this animal. My husband has seen coyote poop along his walks. Called 311 to pick up animal.

Hello everyone. My family and I are new to the Ventana Ranch neighborhood. We just moved into our home on August 20th. I was looking through the forums and this topic caught my attention. I have a minature daschund named Noodles that stays out in our backyard when we're not home. I am now really concerned about this being that there are "packs" of coyotes running through the neighborhood. Am I reading this correct? We have PACKS of coyotes that roam around every night? Has anything been done about this? Or better yet, can anything been done about this?? I also can't believe that this guy if feeding these animals. Not a wise idea at all. I'm not sure where his neighborhood is (we live in Bradford Hills) but I would like to know.
Nice talking with you all.

He lives in the Meadows at Westpoint, and no I don't believe we have "packs" of coyotes running around Ventana Ranch. Coyotes generally don't pack together unless they are hunting some serious prey, but they are around. I believe the pack Mr. Sanchez speaks of is embellishment on his part. I've never seen more than 1 at a time in the Ranch. We have small dogs ourselves and while we've taken precautions to keep them as safe as we can, like raising our wall, making sure their tags have our phone #'s on em, I not too worried about something getting them. If they get out on the streets at night then yes- small dogs, cats could wind up as dinner for something. There are also birds of prey out here from hawks to great horned owls that can take small pets. As far as something being done about this... no, to my knowledge not much can be done. We've called 311 and animal control and they wouldn't send anyone out. They say technically, though ill advised, what he's doing isn't illegal. So I'm hoping awareness and maybe a little peer pressure will convince him to stop.
